The history of Varna is very long and rich. At the boundaries of the town were found among the oldest settlements on the Black Sea over 7000 years old. Varna Chalcolithic necropolis dated to 4200 BC. There was found the oldest gold treasure in human history, and other objects of silver, copper, bronze, clay and flint.

It is known that on the shore of Varna Bay, where is now the old part of the town, is Odessus fortress that is Old Greek translation of the old name - Varna, which was founded in the 6th century BC (about 570 BC), near the same old Thracian settlement in the area of Varna Millet colonists. In the coming years and centuries the fortress was under the rule of many conquerors, including Alexander the Macedonian. Merge into the territory of the Roman Empire and later the Eastern Roman Empire known as Byzantium.
In the late 6th century for the first time in Byzantine chronicles appears the new name of Varna, which in some hypothesis it is with Thracian origin.
Varna became a part of the Bulgarian state. After the Christianization of the Bulgarians in 864 during the reign of Tsar Boris I, it became an important Christian center, led by the Bishop.
In the 13-14 century Varna is a major commercial center and not only for Bulgarian but also Venetian, Romaic, Genoese, Florentine and Dubrovnik merchants who used to come here.
In 1389 Varna was conquered by the Ottoman Turks.
On November 10, 1444 near the town the united Polish-Hungarian Crusader armies of King Vladislav III, called Varnenchik and Transylvanian voivode Hunyadi János are defeated by the Ottomans. Today in Varna is built a mausoleum of a Christian warrior.
Then Varna becomes a typical oriental city during the Ottoman rule in the city, but retains its strategic and commercial importance.

In the 18-19 century Varna was twice discharged for a short time by Russian troops: in 1773 and 1828 in May 1854 in the city was held a conference on allied Ottoman Empire, Britain and France fight together against Russia during the Crimean War (1854 - 1856).

Varna was finally released on July 27, 1878, when Russian troops enter the city under a preliminary peace treaty of San Stefano of 3 March 1878 and the Berlin Treaty of July 13, 1878.

Walk around downtown and the sea garden - one of the pride of Varna.
Roman Baths - a huge spa since antiquity (2nd - 3rd century of our era) with an area of 7000 m2. Residents of Odessos spent several hours there each day. Baths were not just a place where they bathed but a real place for social networking and information exchange.
